See, from tomorrow mornin’ we’ll be pushin’ you the brand new demo for 2K Games‘ Mafia II through Automatic Downloads – and because we’re reasonable guys over here, we’re gonna make it available to download right from the PlayStation Store too – just go find it in the PlayStation Plus section, download it, ba da bing, ba da boom, you got yourself a good way to spend some time, ah? We got an offer all yous wiseguys with your fancy PlayStation Plus subscriptions can’t refuse. Time will tell but I believe it's pretty much 50/50.Okays, listen up ya clowns, we gotta talk a little business over here. They have a lot to prove and a Demo would be the ultimate incentive to get people to give the game a chance. This alone is enough to keep people away. especially after the disappointment Mafia 3 was and knowing this remake is being handled by the same studio and the same engine. It's not really that hard to pick a mission like that for a demo.īoth RE3 and FF7 had 100 times more hype surrounding it than Mafia. The original Mafia demo was simply an indoor mission of the shootout in the garage.

Sure, you are right about Mafia 3 demo coming after the release to push sales, but Mafia is a linear game. I don't think any of the reasons above is really a problem. It's not just a case of the developers whipping up a fraction of the game and then releasing it as a demo just like that. I'm not saying a demo isn't possible at some stage but the chances are very limited for the reasons above and this also not being 2002. The new Mafia game may simply be too big and if compressed, it may do a disservice to the game. Not only this, demos have to be authorised (Sony, Microsoft etc.) and they do not like these exceeding 12gb as a standard. Mafia Definitive would have to make a huge portion of the city available and then they'd have to find a way to limit the user experience. Resident Evil and FF7's demos were easy to implement because those are linear games with simple content cut-off points. There was no demo prior to launch and even in a Q&A presentation, they said they had no immediate plans for one back in late 2015.

The publishers commissioned a demo so players could experience it for free and then continue their progress if they wanted to purchase. The Mafia 3 demo also came many months AFTER release because the game sold poorly and was widely ridiculed.

I am fully aware that the Mafia games got demos but two of those games are very old, at a time when you could get demos on discs - I still have a Mafia 2 Xbox 360 demo and a Mafia PC Gamer magazine disc demo. We also recently got high profile demos such as RE3 and FFVII (PS4). There is even a Mafia 3 demo as well.ĭemos are getting less relevant, but Mafia always had them.
